A Psalm before Ordination

O Lord you are full of wonder and majesty. Your creation is glorious, a glimpse of the outpouring of your goodness.

As the wind moves through the grass but cannot itself be seen, so you are present, moving among us in ways we cannot tell. And as the mystery of a cricket’s unseen song fills whole fields, so you God are always calling to our hearts, surrounding them with your melody. The knowledge of you is the music of joy.

If only I would listen more closely to you, for at every turn I lose sight of your glory. Yet you guide me with patience and pour blessings upon me.

Your love is lavish and sumptuous, and how undeserved it seems. I look at all I have received and can only marvel at your surpassing grace. I am at a crossroads, a mountaintop, and you have led me here by the hand.

May I learn to better show you to others. May I be clear as spring water, so that when someone looks, they see through me to the rainbow of your splendour.

Remain with me, O God, as I start down this new path. Lift my soul when it grows weary, raise my heart when it is faint, fill my spirit when it thirsts. My cup is overflowing. Keep it always so in your presence.

My words are small and clumsy things, but you, God of immeasurable love, can be found in silence and peace as we dwell together.
